Apple News app
Apple’s built-in news curating
platform, Apple News, allows
you to pick your sources, topics
and areas of interest and then
brings them all together in a tailored feed.
While there are plenty of news aggregators
on the App Store, Apple News offers some
significant benefits over the competition.
The content is curated by a dedicated
editorial team, so the suggestions you see are
from high-quality sources. The app then works
with Safari to suggest news stories and topics
based on your browsing history, and you can
further refine suggestions by liking/unliking
particular items, and blocking channels and
themes you aren’t interested in seeing.
All this information processing is done
entirely on-device, so there’s no sending of
data to the cloud or sharing of information
to third-parties. The app is available across
your devices too, so you can pick up and
read on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
Apple News+
Apple also runs a subscription service, called
Apple News+ in the News app. For £9.99 per
month, you can subscribe to over one hundred
magazines and newspapers. With sources like
TIME, Vogue, Sports Illustrated, Conde Nast,
National Geographic and Vox, Apple News+
gives you access to a wide range of content
for one single price. You can also browse old
editions and download content to read offline.
An Apple News+ subscription comes with
Family Sharing, supporting up to six users for
just the one fee, and you can opt for a free
one-month trial first. Srivats Lakshman
