antasy writer George R. R. Martin has excited millions of people with his books. He is best
known for writing the fantasy novels behind the wildly popular TV series Game of Thrones.
Martin was born in 1948 in New Jersey. Martin thought his hometown was small and boring. So,
he used writing and his imagination

to make his life interesting. As a boy, he wrote and soldhorror stories to the other kids in his class. In high school, he fell in love with comic books.
He started creating his own superheroes and writing stories for comic fan magazines.
When Martin wasn t busy writing, he enjoyed playing chess.

a full-time writer. He began by writing short stories for science fiction
