AirPrint ready
Many newer printers, such as
this Canon model, have Apple’s AirPrint
software already built–in. That allows it
to work automatically with all Macs,
iPhones and iPads without needing
to download any software at all.

Printing options
Once the printer is installed, you
can press the Options & Supplies button
to check that everything is working
properly. You can clean the print–head
to improve quality, and check the ink
levels before they run out.

And scanning too
Most modern printers include
a scanner too, and you can control that
from here as well. Click the Scanner
button to launch the built–in scanning
app, get a quick preview scan, and adjust
resolution and other settings.

GENIUS TIP

If your printer works
with AirPrint, you can
find the Print command
inside the Share menu
found in many apps.

PRINT WORKS
To add a new printer to your Mac
or remove an old printer, simply
press the “+” or “–” buttons.

SCAN AND PRINT
Most modern printers also include
a scanner, so just click Scan to
view the scanner controls.

JOIN THE QUEUE
You can view the progress of all
printing jobs, and cancel jobs, by
clicking Open Print Queue.

INK SUPPLY
Most printers allow you to
monitor various settings,
including the ink levels, so
that you can buy more ink
before it runs out.

SHARING IS GOOD
Even if your printer uses a USB
cable, your Mac can still share
the printer with other people on
your network.

JARGON BUSTER

AirPrint is a piece of
software, designed by
Apple but built into many
new printers, that allows
them to automatically
work with Macs, iPhones
and iPads.
