anon hasn’t overlooked
its enthusiast audience,
though... The EOS 850D
(EOS Rebel T8i in the US)
supersedes the 800D (Rebel T7i),
and is a versatile 24MP APS-C
sensor camera, powered by the
brand’s latest speedy tech and
featuring 4K video capability.
While the new model retains the
same 45-point autofocus system
as the one it replaces, it also
benefits from some performance
bumps, including 7fps shooting
(up from 6fps) and a newer
Digic 8 image processor. Intelligent
Tracking (iTR) automatic focus is
good news for sport and wildlife
shooters, while automatic
face detection (via the optical
viewfinder) and Eye Detection
AF with tracking (in Live View)
will please anyone who
enjoys shooting portraits.

ith a plethora of improvements, the latest Fujifilm
X100 can be thought of as a slimmer, lighter
and more affordable fixed-lens alternative to
its bigger brother, the XPro-3. The tactile controls of the
X100 are a throwback to more traditional camera design,
but there’s up-to-the-minute tech inside the casing. A
back-illuminated 26.1-megapixel APS-C sensor is allied
to an X-Trans processor for superlative still image quality,
plus 4K video capture at 30fps. A new 23mm f/2 lens,
a tilting touchscreen and AF improvements also feature.

his new 4-in-1 travel tripod kit can be
switched from a tripod to a monopod
in seconds... and also transformed
from a ball head to a pan head. This makes the
VEO 2X a flexible solution for both stills or
video shooters, who will also welcome its
portability and low weight – it starts from just
1.1kg (2.5lbs) – and 12kg maximum load.
Choose between aluminium or carbon fibre,
and three different leg diameters.

anon Europe recently announced a free service
to enable photographers and videographers to
transfer their files directly from Wi-Fi-enabled Canon
cameras to web services and devices. Available from early
April, image.canon will also include free cloud storage that
will work automatically from Canon cameras released this
year (with manual transfer for models released prior to that).
The brand promises that image.canon can manage everything
from family snaps to a professional workflow. The new service
replaces Canon Image Gateway, which goes offline in March.
