If you were trying to explain the book
to somebody who is thinking of buying
it, how would you explain it?
I would say that this actor guy, he made
these pictures in this book and they’re really
good. They’re kind of like the everyday life of
working in the movies and what it’s like, and
what it looks like. It’s a really beautiful thing
[laughs very loudly].
You were honoured in 2013 by the
International Center of Photography
for your photography. How did you
feel about that?
It’s great to get an award from guys who
do what you do and appreciate your work.
There’s nothing better than that; it’s great.
The proceeds from the book are going
to charity – can you explain a little
more about the charity?
All of the proceeds go to the Motion Picture
and Television Fund, which is really an
incredible organisation that the industry has
created. It’s really about taking care of their
own, financially and health-wise. That’s from
the directors, actors, grips, electricians... all
those people. It’s a wonderful organisation,
and it feels totally [right] that that’s where
the proceeds should really go from this book
because, I tell ya, I look at it personally as just
giving back to an industry that’s given
me so much joy, pleasure and a living.
Is there anything else you’d like
to say about the book?
I’ve just got to get the book out
there and let people see it.
Do you have any other plans for your
archive of photographs?
I have an archive. I’ve got a show that’s been
travelling in Europe for a while, called Lebowski
and Other Big Shots – that’s on my site if you
go there, and on the menu go to ‘photography’.
That travels, and I’ll probably get an exhibition
of this book too that will be travelling around.
Do you know if that’s likely to come
to Europe?
Well, there’s currently one in Europe...
Finally, what’s next for you?
I will be doing a show for FX [channel] called
The Old Man. I’m looking forward to [that
coming out]. I’m really enjoying working
with the folks so far in preparation [for it].
