ne problem that manifested
itself early on was being able
to compose a shot without an
empty road or a line of white
vans parked at the kerb. So

what better solution than an iconic London
black cab showing up right on cue and
filling the empty space? After all, street
photography is all about various elements
coming together at a given moment.
“I didn’t notice the taxi until the very last
second, but thankfully it all worked out,”
says Imran. “I would have liked it to have
been a bit closer, so you could see more

of the curve of the road behind, but overall
I’m pretty pleased with the end result.”

Expert opinion

Another great street scene with a lot to
enjoy – the flags, taxi, people and shop
canopies draw this entire image together
and leave you wanting to keep looking.

Get on the right level

Whether you’re shooting inanimate objects, animals
or even children, it’s often a good idea to get down
to their level. A low viewpoint draws people into
the scenes and usually leads to a shallow depth of
field, which helps to separate the subject from the
background and is much more flattering. Here, Imran
had spotted some flowers for sale in an old watering
can – one of many random things you’ll find for sale
while walking down this busy and vibrant road.
