About This Quilt
With selective color placement
in traditional quilt blocks, what is
old is new again. This design moves
one step deeper into modern trends
by using bold solid colors that are
clean and sophisticated. Note that
Geraldine added a pop of color to
her binding by adding in a bit of
red.

Making the Units and
Blocks
Refer to “Stitch-and-Flip” in Basic
Lessons. Use dark gray A’s and
gray B’s to make 63 unit 1’s as
shown.


Refer to “Triangle-Squares”inBasic
Lessons. PairgrayC’sandpinkC’s
to make 52unit2’stotal.


In the samemanner,usegreyC’s
and red C’s to make 2 unit 3’s total.


Sew 2 gray strips and 1 pink strip
together to make a band. Make
3 bands. Cut the bands at 3½" incre-
ments tomake 26 unit 4’s total.

Sew together 1 gray A and 2 unit 1’s
as shown to make block X. Make
27 block X’s total.

Sew together 2 gray D’s, 2 unit 2’s,
and 1 unit 4 as shown to make
block Y. Make 26 block Y’s total.

Sew together2 grayD’s,2 unit 3’s,
2 gray B’s, and 1 red B as shown to
make block Z.

Assembling the Quilt
Center
Refer to the Assembly Diagram.
Sew patches and blocks together
as shown to make a row. Make
6 row 1’s, 2 row 2’s, and 1 row 3.
Sew the rows together, carefully
watching row placement and orien-
tation.

Adding the Borders
Refer to “Borders” in Basic
Lessons. Join border 1 strips and
cut to sizes shown in Assembly
Diagram. Matching centers and
ends, sew border 1 side strips to
quilt; repeat to add top and bottom
strips.
