How has your style evolved over the
years?

More than anything, my skill has
improved, and my design aesthetic
has come into focus. In the beginning,
I think a lot of us try everything, but
ultimately, I’ve discovered that my
personal style is fi rmly rooted in tra-
ditional design with an updated fresh
approach. I want my quilts to look
like a quilt. Not a picture, not some
crazy wild expression of fabric, but a
high-design, calming, beautiful quilt
that adds to the home décor and looks
cozy and warm. I love that. I want
my quilts to be used as quilts. This is
important to me.

What is your best advice for quilters?
You have to love it enough to survive
your own learning curve. I told this to
myself after ruining a quilt top that I
had spent weeks on. It was devastat-
ing, but I chalked it up to the lesson
I learned (Hint: check your timing
on your machine before quilting the
entire thing) and moved on. I’m pretty
certain more lessons will be learned
but hopefully I won’t ruin any more
quilt tops!
