Aim for quilting fun with a
quilt that shoots for the stars.

About This Quilt
Christina designed this quilt by
arranging half-square triangles in
different layouts. When combined
with background fabric the repeat-
ing block layout felt loosely remi-
niscent of the rows of spaceships in
the arcade game “Space Invaders”
and that gave the quilt its name.
Look closely at the photo of the quilt
to see that not all of the blocks use
identical fabrics. In some, she simply
used coordinating fabrics to create
visual interest. Feel free to match
them or just use fabrics in the same
color family if you prefer. Note that
Christina used a facing rather than
binding the quilt.

Making the Units and
Blocks
Refer to “Triangle-Squares” in
Basic Lessons. Pair 3 coordinating
assorted A’s and black A’s to make
6 coordinating/matching unit 1’s.
Make 49 sets of 6 coordinating
unit 1’s total.
In the same way, make 14 sets of
3 coordinating unit 2’s.

Sew 4 block X’s together as shown
to make row 1. Make 7 row 1’s. Sew
1 block Y, 3 block X’s, and 1 block Z
together as shown to make a row 2.
Make 7 row 2’s. Sew the rows

Quilting and Finishing
Layer and baste together the
backing, batting, and quilt top.Refer to the quilting placement dia-

colored patches and freeform plants
