to intervene. The next morning the League’s secretary-general called an emergency
meeting for October 26 and the Council’s president, Briand, called on both parties to
end the fighting. The Council discussed the dispute in private session then passed a
resolution in public session that called on both sides to withdraw their troops within
sixty hours. Britain, France, and Italy were also asked to provide members for a veri-
fication team. Romania and Turkey also attempted to mediate the dispute.
On October 28, representatives from the Bulgarian and Greek governments
announced that their respective governments accepted the League’s resolution. The
verification team then submitted a report the next day confirming that both sides had
complied with the withdrawal request.
