Narrative: Spain and Morocco had just signed a fishing agreement which allowed
fishing vessels of each nation to use the others waters, in the Canary Islands and off
of Morocco’s coast. However, between February 6 and 9, 18 Spanish fishing vessels
and 200 of their crew members were seized while 18 miles off the Moroccan port of
Agadir. They were released on February 15 upon payment of fines. On February 24,
two more boats were seized and held in Alhucemas.

Narrative: Iranian warplanes hit a Spanish supertanker and set it aflame. This was the
second raid by Iran in the area which were meant to be in retaliation for Iraq’s attacks
near Iran’s Kharg Island oil terminal.
