also be used in cases other than the nominative: Чьим pису�нком

Form questions by using чей, чья, чьё, чьи with the following nouns:
журна�л, кни�га, кроссо�вки, сви�тер, окно�, газе�ты, мяч.
For example:
Чей э�то журна�л?

У меня� used as possessive
As well as meaning ‘I have’, y меня� is sometimes used instead of мой
to translate ‘my’: y меня� в ко�мнате ‘in my room’. У тебя�, y него� etc.
may be used similarly: y нaс в семье� ‘in our family’.

  • Explain that there is a very good sports centre not far from the cen-
    tre of town. There are tennis courts, a swimming pool and a gym.

  • Say that you visit the sports centre twice a week with your brother.
    In winter, you swim in the pool, and in summer, you play tennis. Your
    brother also trains there three times a week. He wants to be a foot-
    ball champion, and his coach says that he has a great future.

  • Explain that you are keen on tennis and swimming, but you prefer to
    watch football on television. You used to be a . . . supporter but now
    you support. . . .

  • А кем вы хоти�те быть тепе�рь?

  • Say that you would like to be an artist or an architect because you
    are interested in painting and love to draw.
