Verbs with stems ending in -ч, -ж, -ш and щ, e.g. лежа�ть, have the
endings -y and -ат because of the spelling rule.
Infinitive ending with -дить or -деть (i.e. the present tense stem ends in д).
The first person singular ends in -жу. The other endings are regular.
ви�деть ‘to see’
я ви�ж-y мы ви�д-им
ты ви�д-и�шь вы ви�д-ите
он/она�/оно� ви�д-ит они� ви�д-ят
Other 2nd conjugation verbs with a similar consonant change in the
first person singular:
- Stem ends in -т. The first person singular ends in -чу. The other end-
ings are regular:
плaти�ть ‘to pay’ я плач-у�, ты пла�т-ишь etc. - Stem ends in -c. The first person singular ends in -шy. The other
endings are regular:
проси�ть ‘to ask’ я прош-у�, ты про�с-ишь etc. - Stem ends in -з. The first person singular ends in -жу. The other
endings are regular:
вози�ть ‘to convey’ я вож-у�, ты во�з-ишь etc. - Stem ends in -ст. The first person singular ends in -щy. The other

Verbs with stem ending in б, в, п, ф and м insert an -л- between stem
and ending in the first person singular.
