In the morning, we followed the highway, my pet hate, but it had a
wide shoulder and made for comfortable riding. Shortly after midday,
a turnoff led to Culiacan where we spotted a motel.

Upon inquiring about the price, the establishment revealed itself as a
“love motel” where rooms were rented by the hour. Nonetheless, they
made us a good deal as it was highly likely they never had bicycle
tourers as clients. The room was huge with a fancy bathroom and I
didn’t think anyone had ever cooked a meal in any of the rooms.
