065 Cycle Touring Cuba

(Leana) #1

Vinales – San Cristobal - 110 km

Upon departing my comfortable abode, I followed my nose in an
easterly direction, wondering where the road would take me. The
area wasn't particularly picturesque and a headwind prevailed all day.
It was a relief to reach the tiny village of San Cristobal. Whether the
town would offer accommodation was doubtful but, sure enough, it
did. The room had a mirror on the ceiling and it might not have been
intended for a single person.

Still, the family was a typical Cuban household with various trinkets
displayed in cabinets and photos in old frames hanging askew on the
wall. The Cubans shared the same family values as their South
American counterparts. As a result, family members and friends were
constantly popping in, resulting in an endless flow of comings and
goings. San Cristobal was a pleasant rural area, nearly like a big
farm, where there always seemed to be a cock crowing and a dog
barking in the distance.
