height of almost 100 feet at its peak. Light entered the church on three levels: directly
through the clerestory windows, indirectly through the high windows under the groin
vaults of the inner aisles, and through the lower windows of the outer aisles. On the basis
of measurements made on the site and the study of 18th-century plans, Conant has
concluded that the master of Cluny III followed the proportional principles of the Golden
Section.
