COUNCIL OF EUROPE
European University Sports Association (EUSA) works closely with the Council
of Europe (COE), where we are members of the Consultative Committee
of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport, as well as member of the
Conference of International Non-governmental Organisations (INGO).
The annual meeting of the EPAS
Governing Board and meeting
of the EPAS Consultative
Committee were held in
Strasbourg on June 8 and 9,
- The event was held at the
Council of Europe headquarters,
and before the official meetings,
the members, among them also
the European University Sports
Association (EUSA), were invited
to an unconscious bias training
on Wednesday afternoon.
Parallel sessions of in-camera
meetings of the 17th Plenary
meeting of the EPAS Governing
Board and the 15th Plenary
meeting of the Consultative
Committee. Elections for the
Consultative Committee’s
Bureau also took place at the
meeting.
Following on the program of
the event was the joint meeting
of EPAS Governing Board
and Consultative Committee,
addressing several topics,
reflecting on the EPAS core
values on promoting and
ensuring that sport is a safe
sport, inclusion, diversity,
equality, and the European
Sports Charter.
At the interim elections, Andrej
Pisl, EUSA Communications and
Project Manager, was elected as
supplement member.
EPAS joint sessions brought
reports and information
about past and upcoming
EPAS events, highlighting the
EPAS’ 3-pillar values, starting
with the first one on Ethical
sport – highlighting the round
table on integrity in sport. The
second pillar – Inclusive sport –
showcased the Combating Hate
Speech in Sport Joint project;
All In Plus project on promoting
gender equality in sport, the
EPAS diversity conference 2023
on Inclusion of child migrants
and refugees in and through
sport; as well as the Webinar on
protecting and promoting the
human rights of transgender
and intersex athletes in
sports – organised with active
contribution of EUSA.
Later in the year, the Enlarged
Partial Agreement on Sport
(EPAS) of the Council of Europe
(COE), in cooperation with the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Education and Sport of the
Principality of Liechtenstein
within the framework of the
Liechtenstein Presidency of
the Committee of Ministers,
organised the EPAS Diversity
Conference on the topic of
Inclusion of Child Migrants and
Refugees in and through Sport
on November 28 and 29 in
Schaan, Liechtenstein.
As indicated in the title of the
conference, the focus of the
event was on the inclusion of
children and youth migrants,
refugees, and asylum seekers in
and through sport.
Workshops, plenary sessions,
and panels on the topics of key
challenges to the inclusion of
child migrants and refugees
in and through sport, existing
good practices, initiatives and
solutions for these challenges,
the policy position of COE, the
role of sport for child migrants
and refugees, and more
specifically, how sport can be
used as a tool for inclusion, were
part of this Conference.
The conference closed in
a constructive way, with
key important messages
and commitments of the
participants and stakeholders
to enable safe sport in all
communities, with active
engagement of migrants,
refugees and asylum seekers, as
well as local communities in all
stages, as well as use sport as
a tool for integration, inclusion
and social cohesion.
