ENGSO & ENGSO YOUTH
The 6th edition of the European Sport Platform (ESP2023) took place in Lisbon,
Portugal, from October 12 to 14, organized by ENGSO and hosted by the Sports
Confederation of Portugal, featuring diverse representatives from European sports
organizations, including the European University Sports Association (EUSA).
With the theme of
“Strengthening sport for
stronger communities”, the ESP
included various workshops,
speeches and activities related
to building up a more inclusive
and cooperative community, as
well as the Equality in Sport
Conference and the final event
of the EQUIP project.
The two-day program consisted
of a Human Library workshop,
a Call to Action for improving
equality in sports, and a
Walk of Privilege role play
addressing discrimination.
EUSA Communications Officer,
Hristina Hristova, participated
in the Human Library sessions
as one of the experts, sharing
her experiences on inclusion and
equal opportunities.
Topics such as values and
policy in sport, sustainability
in sports management, and
insights from the European
Commission’s Sport Unit,
sustainable sport management,
good governance, youth
integrity, safeguarding in sport,
fair play in grassroots sport,
and the HealthyLifestyle4All
initiative were also covered.
The event was wrapped up with
the announcement that the
next European Sport Platform
in 2024 will be hosted by NOC
Kosovo.
This year, besides the ESP, from
June 1 to 4, 2023, in Stockholm,
Sweden, the inaugural edition of
the European Youth and Sport
Platform 2023 was organized by
ENGSO Youth in collaboration
with ENGSO and the Swedish
Sports Confederation. The
event aimed to address global
challenges, facilitate youth
advocacy, and foster discussions
on themes such as good
governance, sustainability, and
digitization within the context of
the Youth Legacy in and within
Sport, aligning with the goals
of the Swedish EU Presidency.
The diverse program included
an official opening, high-level
panels, workshops, sessions
on various topics, such as:
governance, digitalization, and
sports, sustainability, policy-
making, led by speakers from
organizations such as IOC,
European Commission, ENGSO
and ENGSO Youth. Participants
had the chance to also enjoy,
#beactive engaging activities
like Wheelchair Basketball, Disc
Golf, and Running.
The closing remarks outlined
plans for the next edition
in 2025 in Warsaw, Poland,
accompanied by festivities and
celebrations in Stockholm.
In 2023, EUSA had the chance
to also attend the General
Assembly of ENGSO and
ENGSO Youth, which took place
in Hersonissos, Crete, Greece,
from 12-14th of May. The event
kicked off with the EQUIP
Seminar on equality, inclusion,
and disability, organized by the
Hellenic Paralympic Committee
and ENGSO EWS Committee.
The seminar featured a panel
discussion and inspiring
discussions on sport, inclusion,
and equal opportunities, shared
by Para-athletes, emphasizing
empowerment through sports
and the importance of visibility
for people with disabilities.
The official opening of the
General Assembly included
welcoming words from ENGSO
President Stefan Bergh and
other dignitaries, followed up
by an ENGSO Member seminar,
featuring discussions on the
recent member survey, the
new ENGSO Policy program,
and presentations on equality
and sustainability, crisis
resilience, and EU sport policy.
The assembly concluded with
the election of the ENGSO
President, Mr Stefan Bergh,
and other Executive Committee
Members for 2023-2027.
The Youth Assembly of ENGSO
Youth followed, highlighting
activities, achievements,
and elections for the Youth
Committee and leadership
positions for 2023-2025. Ugne
Chmeliauskaite was re-elected
as Chair of ENGSO Youth, joined
by the new Vice-Chair, Erik Van
Haaren, and other committee
members from various
countries.
