ThesuccessofPlanck’sideaimmediatelyraisesthequestion:whyisitthatoscillators
inthewallscanonlyemitandaborbenergiesinmultiplesofhf?Thereasonforthis
wassuppliedbyAlbertEinsteinin1905,inconnectionwithhisexplanationof the
photoelectriceffect.
Itwas foundbyLenard, in1900,thatwhen lightshines oncertainmetals, the
