With senior Sarah Belote offering
words of encouragement including
“life is not that serious, have some
fun and lose some sleep” and “take
risks and be bold’ and “laugh with
your grandchildren someday, because
at the end of the day, life is short,
and everyone deserves to live a full
life” during her valedictorian speech,
Calhoun Christian Schools held its
Class of 2024 graduation ceremony
on Friday, May 24 in the school’s
gymnasium.
Calhoun Christian’s Class of 2024
was made up of seven graduates:
Chandler Latimer, Evelyn Olmstead,

Micah Reed, Belote, Camden Smith,
Von Thang and Deven VanderBilt.
Aside from Belote being valedic-
torian, Smith was salutatorian of the
class.
Following a processional, as noted
on the event’s commencement pro-
gram, Olmstead offered the invoca-
tion; Latimer read a scripture; Belote
gave her speech, Smith gave his
speech; Tangi Olds gave individual-
ized senior blessings; a senior video
created by the Class of 2025 was
played; diplomas were handed out,
led by principal and athletic director
Don Hughes; Reed read the bene-
diction; and then a recessional took
place.

Honduras,” explained Cook.
Special Needs Vision Clinic
Executive Director Dr. Dolores
Kowalski and Board Chairman PDG
Lion R.G. Barnum were very appre-
ciative of the donation, said Cook.
People who have glasses to donate
can call a local Lions Club or drop

them in one of the collection boxes
around town.
The big yellow mailboxes with
the Lions logo are located at the
Kool Family Community Center,
Family Fare on Columbia Avenue,
Family Fare in the Pennfield Plaza, in
Bedford across from the Post Office,
and several optometry offices.

Bedford, Battle Creek Host, Cereal
City and Pennfield Lions Clubs
joined forces to clean, count and box
up the items, said Bryan Cook, presi-
dent of the Cereal City Lions.
“Many hands make light work, and
within 2 hours, they had over 3,
pairs of glasses boxed up,” said
Cook. “Prescription glasses, reading
glasses, sunglasses and old lenses
were all part of the mix in this col-
lection amount.”
The glasses will be delivered to
the Special Needs Vision Clinic in
Saginaw.
The clinic is attached to the Millet
Learning Center, which is a school
for disabled and handicapped chil-
dren and young adults.
