(Hand) Taft, 96,
passed away peace-
fully at Reflections
Memory Care on
June 1, 2024,
with relatives at
her side and oth-
ers praying from
home. Jeanette was
born to Howard J.
Hand and Ruth M.
(Hadley) Hand in
Battle Creek, Michigan, on September 2, 1927.
She attended Lakeview Schools. On June 8,
1942, she married her loving partner of over
75 years, Wendal E. Taft, in Battle Creek, MI.
Jeanette and Wendal later renewed their wedding
vows on a Norwegian Cruise trip to the Caribbean
Islands. Together they built and owned Taft’s A
& W Drive Inn in Albion, Michigan. Jeanette and
Wendal also served with the Emmett Township
Fire Department answering the phones, driving
the trucks and dispatching the volunteers to fire
sites.
Jeanette was an Eastern Star member. After
retirement, Jeanette and Wendal enjoyed many
trips in their motor homes wintering in Las
Vegas. They also later wintered in their home in
Ft. Myers, FL. Jeanette loved to cook and bake,
often gifting her creations to others. She always
loved going to casinos and was celebrated by a
special “Jeanette Taft Day” at FireKeepers Casino
after Covid restrictions were lifted. She also
enjoyed computer games, especially Bookworm.
Mushroom hunting and fishing on the pontoon
boat the couple owned were favorite outdoor
activities. Jeanette’s favorite color was purple,
which she often wore. She was known for her
quick response to “How old are you?” with “29”
even when she was much younger! She was
also quick to point out her much loved American
flags when she spotted them on her road trips
with family.

ministry for 28 years. He has traveled
nationally and internationally preaching
God’s Word. Dan is a 6 year Navy Veteran
and retired Fireman entering the ministry at
38 years old. He has been married to his
wife Terri for 43 years. They have 5 children
and 14 grandchildren who all reside within
an hour of their home in Plainwell, MI. Dan
travels approximately 240 days a year
preaching across America.

Jeanette and Wendal worked hard to instill a
good work ethic and honesty in their children,
Sally (Lou) Bishop of Athens, MI, Carolyn Heath
and Brenda Hubbert (both of Battle Creek). All
three girls played the accordion and owned and
showed horses thanks to the many sacrifices
made by Jeanette and Wendal.
In addition to their daughters, Jeanette and
Wendal had four grandchildren, Dorn Taft,
Andrew Hubbert, Donna (Todd) Anderson (all of
Battle Creek) and Denise (Art) Otarola of Colorado
Springs, CO.; six great-grandchildren, Chase
Hubbert, Christian Hubbert, Kailee Anderson,
Austin Anderson (all of Battle Creek), and Arianna
Otarola and Aiden Otarola (both of Colorado
Springs); and one great-great-grandson, Bentley
Hubbert. Jeanette leaves a special brother and
his amazing wife, Howard J. “Jerry” (Gloria) Hand
Jr. (Bumpus Mills, TN). Jeanette also leaves
many cherished sisters and brothers-in-law;
nieces and nephews and good friends.
Jeanette was pre-deceased by her husband,
Wendal E. Taft; parents Howard and Ruth Hand;
and a brother, Kenneth E. Hand, all of Battle
Creek); a daughter, Brenda K. (Taft) Hubbert; and
many brothers- and sisters-in- law.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.,
Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Richard A. Henry
Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral
service scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, June 10,
2024, at the funeral home, with Rev. Don Mason
of the First Congregational Church, Union City,
MI, officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial
Park Cemetery.

Caring Hospice.

Annie Margaret
(Komarck) Ure, 99,
a lifelong resident
of Battle Creek, died
peacefully, with
family by her side,
on Sunday, June 2,
2024, at Brookdale
Assisted Living.
Annie was born
January 2, 1925,
in Battle Creek,
Michigan to Frank
G. and Anna H. (Frcak) Komarck. She was a 1943
graduate of Battle Creek Central High School.
Anna worked in the family grocery business,
Komarck’s Super Markets, as a child until retiring.
Annie was united in marriage to Danny Ure on
April 14, 1943, at St. Philip Catholic Church. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Danny, on
October 19, 1992.
Surviving are her daughters, Karol (Ronald)
Davidson of Jackson, Susan (Donald) Hopkins
of Hendersonville, NC; her son, Daniel (Laura)
Ure of Battle Creek; “like-a-son,” Raul Garza of
Mexico City; grandchildren, Brenda (Thomas)
Eddy, Wayne (Tricia) Davidson, Courtney Hopkins,
Elliott (Erin) Ure, Evan Ure (Kaleigh Bowman);
great-grandchildren, Madison (Matt) Conklin,
MacKenna Eddy, Brianna and Mia Davidson, Elin,
Emryn and Enley Ure, and another one on the
way; great-great-grandson, Bryson Conklin; two
step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchil-
dren, two step-great- great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Angeline Hinton.
In addition to her husband, Annie was also pre-
ceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna,
and two brothers, Paul “Bud” Komarck and John
Komarck.
Annie was a lifelong member of St. Philip
Catholic Church and a long-time member of the
Leila, B.C. Health System, Bronson B.C. Hospital
Auxiliary with over 8,600 volunteer hours that she
was very proud of. She and her husband, Danny,
were members of Marywood Country Club. They
loved golfing and dancing together. They traveled
all around the world as members of the Michigan
Food Dealers Association and enjoyed their retire-
ment wintering in Siesta Key, Florida. Annie was
an avid Bridge player until just one year ago. She
also enjoyed playing Bingo, visiting the casino
and bowling in her younger years. Annie shopped
all year long for prizes for her annual Bingo
party for her family and their friends. She also
made elegant Christmas stockings for her family,
many friends and neighbors. She was known to
her grandchildren as Little Grandma/Little Nana
because she was only 4’11.’
Annie cherished her family most of all and
she was truly loved by her family and everyone
that knew her. She will be long remembered for
her sweet, spunky ways and fun-loving sense of
humor.
Friends will be received 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Farley Estes Dowdle
Funeral Cremation Preneed Care, where the
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. James
Richardson at 1 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at St.
Philip Catholic Church. Committal and entomb-
ment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery,
with a luncheon to follow.
