Cereal City Classic 5K/10K is Saturday
The annual Cereal City Classic
5K/10K run/walk event sponsored by
the Battle Creek Family YMCA is
scheduled for this coming Saturday
(June 8).
The 10K Run starts at 7:45 a.m.,
and the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8
a.m. – with both having start/finish
lines located next to the Battle Creek
Y Center’s Multi Sports Complex at
86 Cherry St. in B.C.
The course involves streets located
both downtown and close-by to the Y
Center.
Cost to participate in the event,
which takes place the morning of the
downtown Cereal Festival, is $45 for
adults and $35 for youth (after June
6 prices).
All participants will receive a
goody bag along with event t-shirts
(as available).

The top three teams qualifying for
state were first-place Portage Central
with 310, second-place Grand Rapids
Forest Hills Northern with 313 and
third-place Rockford with 317.
The individual medalist was
Portage Central senior Jake Longman
with a 72; and a score of 76 or lower
was needed to be an individual state
meet qualifier (for players not on
state qualifying teams).
For Lakeview, junior Eric Ryan
had a 92, senior Klay Helner a 94,
sophomores Joshua Neal and Jay
Hamric had 105s, and junior Avery
Robertson had a no-count 108.
- And, in the D-4 regional at
Coldwater, Climax-Scotts finished
12th with a score of 406.
Team-wise, Hillsdale Academy
was first with 331, Kalamazoo
Hackett second with 335 and
Kalamazoo Christian third with 336.
The individual medalist was
K-Christian junior Ian Tuin with a
75; and a score of 85 or lower was
needed to qualify individually out of
regionals to state.
C-S’s scores: Junior Jackson
Bagwell 96, junior Cole Reitz 97,
junior Carter Pio 102, sophomore
Ryan Pejakovich 111 and junior Cole
Curtis a no-count 117.
Note: Aside from this Friday’s and
Saturday’s D-2 state finals at Forest
Akers West at MSU, the D-1 finals
will take place at Bedford Valley in
B.C., the D-3 finals at Ferris State’s
Katke Course and the D-4 finals at
Grand Valley State University’s The
Meadows GC.

All-City Results
As noted earlier in this article, and
as was announced in last week’s
edition, Harper Creek’s team placed
first at the annual All-City Meet on
May 23 at Marywood GC – posting
a squad score of 318 – and HC state
meet qualifier Joey Mario was indi-
vidual medalist with his round of 74.
Second team-wise at All-City was
Lakeview with 371, and third was
Pennfield with 444. Not having a
team score (with one golfer) was St.
Philip.
Following Mario in individual
scoring for Harper Creek were junior
teammate Evan Munoz with an 80,
junior teammate Quinn Barrick with
an 81, junior teammate Spencer
Denney with an 83 and Lakeview
senior Klay Helner with an 84.
