With a class motto of “Your life

does not get better by chance. It gets

better by change. Don’t be afraid

to move on to the next chapter,”

Pennfield High School graduated

its Class of 2024 on the evening of

Tuesday, May 28 in the PHS gym-

nasium.

Pennfield’s Class of 2024 included

173 seniors.

Class officers for PHS’s Class of

2024 were president Katelyn Lamb,

vice president Abigail Patterson,

secretary Landon Metty and treasurer

Thomas Kurtz.

Pennfield’s valedictorian was

Emma Brown, and its salutatorian

was Alexis Downs.

Both Brown and Downs were

among the ceremony’s speakers

before diplomas were handed out and

graduates made their way into the

Pennfield High parking lot for photos

and congratulatory hugs.

The event’s processional was

done by PHS’s high school band,

led by director Blake Driver; the

“Star Spangled Banner” was per-

formed by the PHS band and choir

(with the choir being directed by

Class of 2024 graduates at Pennfield High

Steve Bowen); and the song “Go the
Distance” by Hercules was performed
by the choir.
Offering the “welcome” address
was PHS principal Andrew Loy; the
introduction of speakers was done by
the aforementioned Metty; Pennfield
schools superintendent Stephanie
Lemmer was the first to speak to the
graduates and the standing-room-only
audience in attendance; and PHS sec-
retary Monica Crandall delivered the
commencement address.
Next up: The introduction of the

top 10 academic seniors for the
Class of 2024; the introduction of
Summa Cum Laude GPA leaders
Kelsey Peterson and Thomas Kurtz;
words of wisdom from school board
student representative Kay’Dence
McClenney; and then fun and uplift-
ing speeches by salutatorian Downs
and valedictorian Brown.
Principal Loy along with Dawn
Forton (president of the Pennfield
Board of Education) and Lemmer
then distributed diplomas, and the
presentation of the graduates was

done by class president Lamb and
class vice president Patterson.
The playing of the Pennfield fight
song and more music by the PHS
band then wrapped up things up in
the gym.
Pennfield’s Class of 2024 class
song was “The Climb” by Miley
Cyrus; its class flower was the sun-
flower; and its class advisors were
Tom Boyd and Joe Klepac.
