Nadine A.
Crandall, 96, of
Grand Rapids
and formerly of
Battle Creek,
went to be with
the Lord on
Saturday, May
11, 2024, in
Grand Rapids.
Nadine was
born September
1, 1927, in Battle
Creek to Charles
and Augusta (Magnuson) Treadwell. She
graduated Laingsburg High School and
returned to Battle Creek in 1945, where
she met and married her husband, Alan
Crandall, in 1946.
Nadine worked at the Veterans
Administration Hospital, the Kellogg

Foundation and the Federal Center
(DRMS), retiring from there in 1991.
She enjoyed gardening, travel, and visit-
ing with friends and relatives, and was
an active member of Birchwood United
Methodist Church before moving to Grand
Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her
husband of 68 years in 2015; daughter
Julie Crandall in 2023; four brothers; and
a sister.
She is survived by son Steven Crandall
and daughter Lynne Crandall; five
grandchildren, Scott, Tracy and Kimberly
Crandall, Taylor (Arlie) Rugg, and Avery
(Tyler) Bolhuis; and six great-grandchil-
dren, Nick Crandall, Maddiesun Duncan,
Olivia Dalby, Nadine and Naoma Rugg,
and Alan Bolhuis.
Following a graveside service, she was
interred at Reese Cemetery.

Loren L.
Dingman, 85, of
Nashville, Mich.,
passed away
peacefully on
Friday, June 14,
2024.
Loren was
born in Nashville,
Mich., on Jan.
17, 1939, the
son of the late
Howard L. and
Unah E. (Stewart)
Dingman. He was a graduate of Nashville
High School, class of 1957 and attended
Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music.
Loren was self-employed for most of his
life and was the owner of several busi-
nesses, including The Teener, Nashville
Flower Shop, South End Grocery in
Nashville, Mr. Lucky’s Restaurant and
Lounge in Battle Creek, and Islands Inn
Motel in Cedarville in the Upper Peninsula
of Michigan.
His faith in the Lord was very important
to him, and he served as associate pas-
tor at Woodbrook Cathedral in Grand
Rapids. Loren also worked for a time in
the music industry as a sound technician
in Nashville, Tenn.
On June 11, 1989, he married Margaret
D. Smith, who survives. Loren is also
survived by his children, Denise Hummel,
Randy (Christine) Dingman, Chris
Dingman (Phil Forrest) and Adam (Jordan)
Dingman; stepchildren Silas E. III (Candy)
Chalfant and Susan (David) Laws; 13

grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;
brother Roger (Bonnie) Dingman; sister
Lois (Bill) Browne; and many nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded
in death by his brother Neal (Annetta)
Dingman and great-grandson Levi
Chalfant.
A funeral service will be held Friday,
June 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Kempf
Family Funeral & Cremation Services,
2838 Capital Ave. SW, Battle Creek, MI


  1. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn
    Cemetery, Battle Creek. Visitation will take
    place at the funeral home one hour prior
    to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.

Wilma M.
Gillett went
to be with her
Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ, on
Monday, June
10, 2024, sur-
rounded by fam-
ily, at the home
of her son Daniel
Gillett in Otsego,
Michigan. After
a long full life of
90 years, she
succumbed due to several chronic health
issues.
Wilma was born October 22, 1933, in
Battle Creek/Emmett Township to Charles
and Mildred Hoover. She grew up on her
father’s dairy farm and attended Spaulding
School. She married Kenneth R. Gillett on
December 27, 1954. After several moves,
including a few months in Ohio, they
settled on the Hoover Farm at 6-1/2 Mile
Road, Battle Creek, Michigan, where she,
along with her husband, raised their three
children.
Wilma enjoyed putting together jigsaw
puzzles and competing in games, whether
it was softball and volleyball during her
younger years or at cards anytime.
She was an avid gardener, and many
vacations were spent camping around
Michigan. Wilma also enjoyed get-
ting family together for summer holiday
potlucks and games as well as holiday

dinners. A big Thanksgiving meal was
always one of her favorites. She was a
lifelong member of First Wesleyan (now
Woodland) Church in Battle Creek,
Michigan, where she faithfully served
in Sunday School and Christian Youth
Crusaders for several decades.
She is survived by her sister Ruth M.
Winch of Bellevue, MI; her sons, Randy
(Mary) Gillett of Youngsville, NC, Daniel
(Christie) Gillett of Otsego, MI; and daugh-
ter Julia (Ben) Cushman of Battle Creek,
MI; her grandchildren, Jordan Gillett,
Bethany Corey, Chelsea Jones, Sean
Cushman, Zachary Cushman, Rachelle
Gillett and Tyler Gillett; as well as several
great-grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her
husband, Kenneth R. Gillett, on January
27, 2009; her sister Marjorie Walker, and
her brother, Ralph Hoover, both of Battle
Creek, MI; and a grandson, Darrin Marc
Gillett.
Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Thursday,
June 13, and on Friday, June 14, at noon,
both at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral
Home & Cremation Care, where funeral
services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, June
14, 2024. Interment followed at Newbre
Cemetery.
