The Calhoun County Public

Health Department has free bicycle

helmets for children and teens

in need who complete an online

request form at calhouncounty.rja.

revize.com/forms/6612. The health

department will then contact fami-

lies in one to three business days

to schedule an appointment to have

their child property sized for the

correct helmet. Helmets will be dis-

tributed on a first come, first served

basis through appointments only.

The CCPHD has 1,600 helmets to

give away. For more information,

The U.S. Navy will be bringing two
demos to the Battle Creek Field of
Flight Air Show & Balloon Festival
July 3-7, the F/A-18F Super Hornet
and F-35C Lightning II.
The F/A-18F Super Hornet
“RHINO” Demonstration Team
will be coming to Battle Creek from
Strike Fighter Squadron 106 (VFA-
106) “Gladiators’’ at NAS Oceana,
Va.
The demo pilots will perform in
the Super Hornet and showcase the

multi-role strike fighter capabilities

of this next generation, cutting edge

aircraft.

“The Super Hornet is one of the

most amazing aircraft in the US arse-

nal,” said Field of Flight media direc-

tor Bretten Bailey. “It is powerful,

versatile and quite maneuverable.”

During the demo, spectators can

expect to see numerous profiles of

the Super Hornet, including a touch-

and-go, the slow speed High Alpha

Pass and the High Speed Pass, where

The Super Hornet was the featured

aircraft in the hit film “Top Gun:

Maverick.”

The RHINO Demo Team from

VFA-106 is only performing at

12 air shows this season, and

Battle Creek is the only location in

Michigan.

The F-35C Lightning II Demo

Team will be coming from Strike

Fighter Squadron 125 (VFA-125)

“Rough Raiders” out of NAS

Lemoore, Calif.

This exact squadron made an

appearance at the beginning of the

film “Top Gun: Maverick.”

The “C” model variant of the

Lockheed Joint Strike Fighter is

designed to be able to take off and

land on aircraft carriers and has a

slightly different appearance than its

B (Marine) and A (Air Force) model

counterparts.

The demo in Battle Creek will

showcase this fifth-generation stealth

fighter’s capabilities.

This demo will be seen at only

eight show sites in 2024 and Battle

Creek is not only the only

Michigan appearance, but

is also the only Michigan

show to have ever hosted

the F-35C Demo Team.
