More than just fun during the day-
time will be occurring at the 2024
Battle Creek Field of Flight Air
Show & Balloon Festival from July
3-7 at the Battle Creek Executive
Airport.
There are plenty of nighttime activ-
ities scheduled, as well, says Bretten
Bailey, media director and a festival
organizer.
From concerts and fireworks, to
one of the largest twilight and night
air shows in the nation, there is fun
for everyone, he said.
“Most people think of a normal
air show and think of just the flying
during the day. Even with balloon
events, the illumes and glows are
extremely popular, so we’re extend-
ing the extra magic to the rest of the
event.”
The event will feature one of the
largest twilight and night air shows
in the country on July 5.
Aircraft will take to the skies with
fireworks, pyro, lights, sparks and

‘Heat dome’ sends residents

to the pools, splash pads

Last week’s heat wave that landed all of Michigan and most of the country
under what meteorologists called a “heat dome” in the atmosphere that sent
temperatures soaring into the mid to high 90s with heat indexes on the ground
sometimes reaching 100 degrees. The high humidity led to heat advisories in
Battle Creek with warnings of the dangers of prolonged exposure to the sun
during that weeklong event. The heat moved out of the area late Saturday
night and Sunday temperatures were more comfortable in the high 70s during
the day. Here, Kristian Garett finds relief among hundreds of others at Flash
Flood water park at Full Blast in downtown Battle Creek on Thursday. Also
pictured are youths playing in the splash pad at Claude Evans Park on North
Washington Avenue in Battle Creek. (Battle Creek Shopper News photos)
