Job Description: The Village of Athens located in scenic farmland in Southern
Michigan is seeking a Full Time Department Head Employee. Must be a high
school graduate. Two years of management in college is preferred. Must possess
excellent public relations, oral and written conversation skills and experience
preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a CDL endorsement. General
maintenance and heavy tool/equipment knowledge and skills required. Must
live or move to within 20 miles of the village. Must be able to pass physical and
drug test. Duties include and are not limited to acting as immediate Supervisor
for one (1) Full Time Maintenance employee and one (1) Part Time Employee.
The position is as a working supervisor. Job requirements include street snow
plowing, digging deep holes, lifting heavy items, using hazardous materials,
vacuuming leaves, replacing water mains. The ability to work with Township,
County, State and Federal Agencies for completion of projects. Early morning
arrival, and late departure possible. Overtime and weekend stand by work
required.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The City of Battle Creek will
accept sealed bids for the Sonoma Rd North Watermain
Project. This project consists of, but is not limited to, a wa-
termain extension consisting of approximately 2460 syd of
pavement removal, 757 feet of 8” watermain, 2 fire hydrants,
(8) 1” water services and (1) 4” water service to supply the
MDOT rest area and 2460 syd of aggregate base and 440
tons of HMA.

The 2024 spring/summer/fall sea-
son for the Battle Creek Shuffleboard
Club is underway on the courts locat-
ed near the front entrance to B.C.’s
Bailey Park off Capital Ave. NE.
Larry Roan of the B.C.
Shuffleboard Club said drop-in play
is now taking place every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday starting at 10
a.m., and will continue into the early
fall months.
Aside from drop-in play and local
tourneys, the B.C. Shuffleboard Club
will host the Michigan Shuffleboard
Association State Tournament for the
10th straight season this coming July
29-Aug. 1 – and everyone local is
invited to join in and participate.
Yearly club dues remain $10 per
person. Those new to the sport
will be given equipment to use and
how-to-play advice for their first
few weeks of play until they decide
whether or not they want to join the
club.
Roan added that men and women of


all ages and skill levels are welcome
to come out to the Bailey Park courts
at the aforementioned times to give
the activity a try – and see old friends
or make new ones.

Thus far during the 2024 season,
two home-court tournaments have
taken place – and more are scheduled
prior to and after the state tourney.
Coming up is the Farley-Estes
Tournament on July 8, the Belding
tourney on July 15 and the Caro
tourney on July 24. And after the
state tourney, the Michigan Memorial
Draw Any Doubles Tournament is set
for Aug. 19.

Fleming, an Olivet native and 2011
graduate of KCC, took the helm
of the Athletics Department in the
summer of 2022 after several years
of experience in various positions
throughout the world of sports.
As a Bruin, Fleming was himself a
part of the KCC baseball teams that
won a conference championship in
2010 and a regional championship
in 2011, a year that ended with the
Bruins finishing fourth in the nation
at the NJCAA D-II World Series.
