“So yeah, my right wrist became a

problem for a bit, and my hands at

the end of all those chin-ups got pret-

ty mangled. It was tough,” he said.

“But I managed to be even tougher.”

And his toughness – of mind and

body – earned him world records.

“When doubt was creeping in at

times, I was thinking about the reps.

And I fought through it,” Solano

said.

“I just had to prove to myself that

I could do it, and that the time with

hours and hours and days and days

of training for this that I put into it

would pay off.

“Which goes to show,” concluded

Solano, “that as long as you keep

working hard to accomplish some-

thing in life, you’re going to surprise

yourself a lot of times at what you

are able to do.”

Calhoun County Senior Services

on July 19 presented the newest

members of its Centenarians of

Calhoun County storytelling proj-

ect at Marshall United Methodist

Church.

At the reception, eight centenarians

attended, along with 70 additional

family members, friends, elected

officials and members of the public,

said Rebecca de Finta of Calhoun

County Senior Services.

The storytelling project was first

launched in 2021 and has continued

to honor the centenarians of the

county by sharing their stories with

their communities.

“Senior Services staff interviewed

nine newly identified Calhoun

County residents, age 99 or older.

July of this year were included in a

memorial section of the display and

booklet,” said de Finta.

There are 33 known centenarians

living in Calhoun County.

The display consists of professional

portraits taken by Blufish Marketing

and summaries of the centenarians’

lives.

“The history of Calhoun County

is found in the stories of our older

adults, but we need to make time to

have important conversations about

people’s history. We are so thankful

to the 14 new centenarians and their

families who were willing to share

their life’s story with us,” said de

Finta.

Many of them worked for the

Digger and Diane Jones will cel-

ebrate 60 years of marriage on July

31.

Digger and Diane met while attend-

ing Battle Creek Central; they were

high school sweethearts.

They both retired from the Kellogg

Co. and are members of its 25 Year

Club.

They had two daughters, Shawn

(Dave) Sutherland and Shelli

DeLynn (Tom) Harris; four grand-

Joneses celebrating 60th anniversary

children; and seven great-grandchil-

dren.

They enjoy spending time with

family, wintering in Fort Myers

Beach, Fla., and date night with

friends.

They are celebrating with a family

luncheon at the Battle Creek Country

Club, and in August, a family vaca-

tion in Saugatuck.
