Del Kilbourne, president of the
Misfits Car Club of Battle Creek, was
honored with a plaque by the Misfits’
membership recently – recogniz-
ing Kilbourne for his efforts to raise
funds this summer for local organiza-
tions in need.
The plaque was presented to
Kilbourne during the Misfits’ benefit
car show on Saturday, July 13 that
was a fundraiser for the Haven of
Rest.
“It was pretty cool,” Kilbourne said
of receiving the plaque. “It really sur-
prised me, and I’m very thankful.”
So far this summer, Kilbourne
- Misfits president for five years
and one of the founders of the
local ALERT (American Legion
Emergency Response Team) group
- has overseen the Misfits being
the host of the annual Charlton
Park Father’s Day Car Show in the
Hastings area in June, putting on a
benefit car show for the Battle Creek
Regional Museum later in June (the
29th) at Leila Arboretum during Del
Shannon Weekend, and then putting
on the fundraiser car show for the
Haven of Rest.
Kilbourne said that aside from the
Haven and the Regional History
Museum, receiving financial aid
from the Misfits thus far in 2024,
also getting financial help from the
car club has been Battle Creek’s two
American Legion posts “for their
Christmas funds and other things,” he
said.
“We’re hoping to distribute about
$10,000 overall that we’ve raised for
organizations in need this summer,”
Kilbourne said. “It’s a great feeling to
be able to help others.”
Kilbourne also said that the Misfits’
new permanent home for Saturday
gatherings this year is the Taco Bell
on Columbia Avenue (in front of
Meijer).
