American Legion Post 257 on B
Drive North in Battle Creek received
a special guest visitor on Tuesday,
July 9 when Lisa Williamson –
the American Legion’s National
Auxiliary President – stopped by the
post for a few hours to meet with
members there and share information
about the Legion’s national suicide
prevention and awareness program.
Williamson was formally wel-
comed for a session of eats-and-
greets in Battle Creek by Post 257
commander Brian Mohlman, who
on the afternoon of July 9 was
five days away from concluding
his one-year term as State Legion
Commander.
“Having Lisa here at our post
is just a wonderful thing,” said
Mohlman, who noted that Post 257
has a regular membership of 281, an
auxiliary membership of about 60
and a Sons of the American Legion
membership of about 45.
“Lisa’s main area of concern here
National Auxiliary president visits B.C.’s American Legion Post 257
is the passing along and provid-
ing information about the Legion’s
national initiative of the prevention
of suicide of military veterans, cur-
rent serving military members and
family members. And that has to do
with ‘Be The One.’
“And that means ‘Be The One’ to
make a phone call to a vet and ask if
they’re doing all right. ‘Be The One’
who knocks on a vet’s door to see
how things are going. Because even
one single phone call, or checking
up with a vet, might just be the thing
that stops them from hurting them-
selves.
“It might just be,” Mohlman said,
“the thing that saves a vet’s life.”
Added Post 257 auxiliary and third
district president Penny Wright:
“I happened to be at the national
convention last year (in Charlotte,
NC) when Lisa was elected to the
national auxiliary post, and then and
