Cruise the Creek, a car lover’s
“cruising dream”, will be return-
ing once again to downtown
Battle Creek on Saturday, Aug. 10,
from 4-9 p.m.
Cruise the Creek will begin at 4
p.m. and encompass West Michigan
Avenue from Capital Avenue to
Carlyle Street (east to west) and also
on Capital Avenue from Friendship
Park to Hamblin Ave., (north to
south).
All cruisers are allowed to park
along the cruise route(s) when not
cruising or done cruising.
Described as a family-friendly
event, it is being organized by
Tucker Newsome and his staff of 12
from the AutoMODIFIED car club.
It will be their third annual Cruise
the Creek since replacing the former
Cruise the Gut organized by Ron
Munster.
Cruise the Creek is free for not
only cruisers, but also for patrons,
Newsome said.

year’s second annual Cruise The Creek event in downtown Battle Creek, put
on by the AutoMODIFIED group. (Shopper News file photo)

Car lovers to ‘Cruise the Creek’ Aug. 10 in downtown B.C.

The only regulation(s) are that the
vehicle must either be 25 years old
or older or be heavily modified and/
or exotic.
“We expect nearly 1,000 cars
this year, along with roughly 3,
attendees,” said Newsome, averag-
ing what he’s seen in past years. “I
currently have two Corvettes and
I’m sure we’ll see more. We’ll have
everything from old vintage cars to
the imported exotics.”
Newsome said there will be no food
or beverage vendors for the event, but
is hoping that visitors and spectators
will visit and patronize downtown
restaurants and breweries.
“Battle Creek has a lot to offer
downtown, so I hope that people
will go to The Griffin or Cafe Rica
or any of the new breweries,” said
Newsome. “This is now our third

year doing this and we really enjoy
it. We do so many events; an Easter
egg hunt, a trunk-or-treat, even drift-
ing exhibitions in Kalamazoo called
‘Slideways,’ but this is the ‘one.’
I used to attend this cruise as a kid
myself, so I’m glad we get an oppor-
tunity to continue this tradition. I
actually started organizing car shows
about seven years ago due to the
fact that there were so few of them
around. And when Ron (Munster)
stopped organizing this event, I
couldn’t let it die, so we went to the
city and brought it back three years
ago.”
Newsome’s AutoMODIFIED is a
car club that focuses on modified cars
and custom vehicles.
They can be found on Facebook at
AutoMODIFIED for future events
and more detailed information.
