Anne
Greenman, 85,
died at home
on August 11,
2024, with
everlasting love
in her heart for
her family and
friends.
She was born
August 6, 1939,
to Jack and Noreen (Tobin) Smith and
was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek.
She graduated from St. Philip High
School in 1957.
Anne married Ed Greenman on May
9, 1959, at St. Philip Catholic Church,
and they celebrated almost 64 years
together. He preceded her in death on
February 8, 2023.
Anne began volunteering at St. Philip
when her children were in school and
she also volunteered for the St. Philip
Thrift Shop, Lakeview Food Pantry, and
was a member of the St. Philip Council
of Catholic Women. She also loved
watching her children and grandchildren
at their sporting events.
She worked as an accountant for sev-
eral businesses and took pride in being
the person that “paid” for the construc-
tion of the Stouffer Hotel in downtown
Battle Creek.
Anne loved hosting parties for family
and friends on holidays and at their cot-
tage home in South Haven. After mov-
ing to Goguac Lake, she enjoyed riding
on their pontoon boat. Her home was
always the central hub for the family.
Anne is survived by her daughter,
Lorrie (Larry) Bentz; and sons Ed
(Beth) Greenman Jr. and Todd (Caroline)
Greenman; grandchildren Ashley
(John Paul) Prebish, Morgan (Devan)
Kline, Kevin (Aline) Greenman, Jenna
(Stephen) Gangi, Anna Greenman
(fiancée Hannah Goldstein), Carrie
Greenman, and Jack Greenman (fiancée
Alyssa Long-Cuba). She is also survived
by great-grandchildren Katherine and
Thomas Prebish, Cameron, Maxwell
and Ryan Kline, and Gianna Gangi; sis-
ter Cathy (Todd) Erskine; brother Rick
(Lrenda) Smith; sister-in-law Dorene
Smith; brother-in-law Tom Cobb; and
many nieces and nephews who adored
her more like a grandmother than an
aunt.
She was preceded in death by her
son-in-law Mike Stevens; brothers Mike
Smith and Pat Smith; and sister Janet
Cobb.
Visitation will be held at Farley Estes
Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care
on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 3:30-7
p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held at St. Philip
Catholic Church on Saturday, August 17,
2024, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow
at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations
may be made to The Greenman Family
Fund for Tuition Assistance through
the Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools
Foundation.
Thomas
Richard Reed
Jr., 76, of Fulton,
Michigan,
passed away
peacefully on
Saturday, August
3, 2024, at his
home. He was
born October
20, 1947, the
son of the late Thomas Richard Reed Sr.
and Patricia Jean (Miller) Reed.
Thomas was a graduate of Comstock
High School. He served in the U.S.
Army during Vietnam and then in the
Air National Guard for 12 years. After
his time in Vietnam, he returned to
Comstock, where he raised his family
until moving to Battle Creek. He was a
welder at several area factories.
Thomas is survived by his daughters,
Tammy (John) Chapman and Shannyn
(Paula) Reed; son Richard Reed;
grandchildren David Chapman, Jesse
(Candice) Chapman and Travis (Ashley)
Chapman; 14 great-grandchildren;
brothers Ralph “Gord” (Marilyn) Reed,
Frank Reed and Keith “Skeeter” (Linda)
Reed; former wives Barbara Reed and
Christy Servis; a host of extended fam-
ily.
Thomas enjoyed golfing, fishing,
hunting, throwing darts, shooting pool,
playing cards, bowling and spending
time with his dogs, Coffee and Luna.
He loved spending time with his family,
especially his grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be
held at Fort Custer National Cemetery,
15501 Dickman Road, on Thursday,
August 15, 2024, at 10 a.m.
Interment will take place in Fort
Custer National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the
Humane Society of Calhoun County.

Gil Ladd
Young II, known
by many as
“Bump,” passed
away at the
age of 56 on
Tuesday, August
6, 2024. He was
born in Battle
Creek, Michigan,
on September
23, 1967.
Gil was a beloved father, brother,
papa, uncle and friend to many. Known
for his humor and remarkable talents,
he touched the lives of those around
him with his warmth and smile. His pas-
sions included playing softball and golf,
and he cherished the moments with
his family. Gil’s presence will be deeply
missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by the love of his
life, Jennifer Herrick; daughter Jaime
Herrick; son Gil Ladd Young III; son
Carter Thomas; sister Shonna (Dan)
Busick; brother Brian (Tonia) Young;
cousin Rahjah Stahlhood; mother-in-
law Mary Jo Marick; and seven beloved
grandchildren.
A celebration of Gil’s life will be held
Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 2-5 p.m.
at Squirrel Hollow Golf Course, 12111
Helmer Road S., Battle Creek.

Joan Joyce
Tatroe, 91, of
Battle Creek,
Michigan,
passed away
Monday, August
5, 2024, at
Farleigh’s Senior
Care Home.
She was born
July 14, 1933,
the daughter of Burton F. McNally and
Zilpha Mary (Page) McNally in Marshall,
MI.
Joan attended Marshall Schools.
She worked for Lamb Knit in Colon,
Michigan, for a chiropractor in Marshall
and Squire’s in Battle Creek.
Joan is survived by her daughters,
Kay (Duane Henderson) Morris of Battle
Creek, MI, Luann (Harold Penley) Morris
of Cookeville, TN; son Kevan (Dawn)
Morris of Burlington, MI; nine grandchil-
dren; 18 great-grandchildren; and half
brother, James (Anne) Lauer of Florida.
Joan was preceded in death by her
parents; father of her children, Lewis
Morris; half-sister Delores Faurst; half-
brother Gerald Lauer; son Jay Morris;
and husband William Tatroe.
Visitation was held at Baxter Funeral &
Cremation Service on Tuesday, August
13, 2024, from 10-11 a.m., followed by
the funeral service at 11 a.m.
Interment took place in Oakridge
Cemetery, Marshall, MI.
