A Battle Creek native who has
returned from Colorado for the third
time to participate in the annual
Color the Creek street art festival has
created what he calls a “surreal” out-
doors scene as his third local install-
ment.
“So, I’m back at it,” he said, paint-
brush in hand at the Blue Ox Credit
Union administration building at
150 Riverside Drive on Friday. “I
moved out to Colorado 12 years ago
but I aways, I kind of have one leg
in Michigan. I miss it, especially this
time of year. It’s awfully dry out
there, as pretty as it is but I’ve got
very good friends here so any excuse
to come back...”
The Color the Creek festival
included a youth art fair and W.K.
Kellogg Foundation mural unveil-
ing Aug. 14 and will culminate with
the 3rd Annual Chalk Art Festival
tomorrow, Aug. 16 at Festival
Market Square from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rose Steinecke of Battle Creek is part of a group effort to create murals on
the former Horrock’s building on the corner of Fountain Street and Capital
Ave. S.W. in Battle Creek. “I just wanted to do something fun and I was like,
‘why not do a chameleon?’ I love bright colors, so, I was like, ‘why not just put
every color of the rainbow in here and make it super bright and fun?’” This
is her first time participating in the Color the Creek street art festival. (Shopper
