Other schools opening their doors
to students Aug. 19 were the Battle
Creek Area Catholic Schools, while
Lakeview and Battle Creek public
were scheduled to start Aug. 21.
Pennfield, Climax-Scotts, Gull
Lake Community and Galesburg-
Augusta schools plan to commence
classes on Aug. 26 while Calhoun
Community High School kicks off
the year on Sept. 3.
Harper Creek used a mutli-media
method of welcoming students
back to school via its social media
platforms, including a “See you in
school” video featuring a montage
of staff members from across the
district released on Facebook on
Sunday, Aug. 18.
Superintendent Rob Ridgeway also
issued a video message, Live from
the Lodge, to the district on Friday
during fifth grade and freshman ori-
entation reminding the public to be
aware of school buses and students.
“You cannot pass buses when the
red lights are running,” he warned,
“and be careful of kids by the side of
the road. This morning, it was dark
coming in so be careful of kids.”
He also reminded parents of when
they can drop off students at their
respective buildings.
“Please, be patient,” he implored,
“because our drivers are going to be
very intentional on getting kids to the
