A promotion in which Erich
Henkel Auto Group donated $
for every car sold during the month
of July to the Kalamazoo Valley
Chapter Trout Unlimited Youth
Camp led to a $1,200 check presen-
tation Wednesday in Battle Creek.
“Their youth camp has grown
exponentially over the past couple
years,” said Henkel Sales Manager
Ransom Traylor, who is a member
of the KVCTU. “They’ve got some
really great leadership and so, as a
dealership, we decided it was a wor-
thy cause to donate some monies to
them.”
According to KVCTU President
James Young, the Grayling camp
is the largest trout and conservation
camp for youth in the nation.
“This year, we had more than 40
kids in two different categories,
advanced and new to the camp
process,” he said, “join us for a
full week in the summer. It’s very
immer-
sive
both in
terms of
conser-
vation
activity

Henkel promotion nets
$1,200 for youth camp
and in terms of how to fly fish. So,
it’s very excellent for them, target
market for kids, anywhere in the
midwest.”
Young said that youths currently
learn of the opportunity via the vari-
ous Trout Unlimited Chapters.
Or, they can visit kvctu.org for
more information, said Young.
The Henkel donation will help
offset the cost for kids to attend the
camp, explained Young.
“One of our largest motivating fac-
tors is to make it as little to no cost
for every single kid,” said Young.
Traylor said he joined the chapter
because it helps with habitat and
stream restoration.
“I’m a trout fisherman, I’m a fly
fisherman,” he said, “so that’s impor-
tant to me but in addition to that, any
restoration or stream improvement
work they do creates better habitat
for not only fish but other wildlife
also.”
Young said Calhoun County has
three good trout streams (Bear Creek,
Rice Creek and Calhoun Creek) that
are in need of habitat work toward
restoration.
“More than anything,” he said,
“they’re in need of protecting.”
The chapter covers Calhoun, bot-
tom of Kent, south to the Michigan
state border.
