Oaklawn Hospital surgeon Dr.
Theresa Klee achieved two mile-
stones in August.
She completed her 500th da Vinci
robotic surgical case and received the
Fellow of the American College of
Osteopathic Surgeons designation.
Klee, a D.O., hit her 500th da Vinci
robotic surgical case on Aug. 1.
The da Vinci Xi Surgical System
is the most advanced instrumentation
with features that promote operat-
ing room efficiency, according to a
recent Oaklawn press release.
The system gives a surgeon an
advanced set of instruments to use
in performing robotic-assisted, mini-
mally invasive surgery.
Surgeons, like Klee, perform sur-
gery with the da Vinci by using
instruments that are guided via a
console, allowing for minimally
invasive and more complex surger-
ies.

cases – anything that can be done
abdominally, and most hernias we
are pretty much using the robot,” she
said.
Klee said that the da Vinci system
has not only helped how doctors per-
form surgeries, but also has “allowed
us surgeons to expand the types and
complexity of cases we are able to
provide at Oaklawn.”
She added, “I can do bigger hernias
with the robot that I could have lapa-
roscopically. It’s the same with dif-
ficult gallbladder procedures. Colon
resections are healing faster with
patients having shorter hospital stays
than when I did them laparoscopi-
cally or open.”
At Oaklawn, the most common pro-
cedures using the da Vinci Xi include
hernia procedures, appendectomies,
gall bladder removal and hysterecto-
mies, among others.
Klee also recently received her
FACOS (Fellow of the American

College of Osteopathic Surgeons)
designation.
The FACOS designation is con-
ferred upon ACOS members, honor-
ary members, and life and retired
members in recognition of their
voluntary activities and service to
advance osteopathic medicine and
surgery.
Recipients have demonstrated a
commitment to the practice of sur-
gery, surgical teaching, authorship of
professional papers, and participation
in local, state and national organiza-
tions.
Recipients also have adhered to the
professional and ethical standards
established by the profession.
“Hitting my 500th case and get-
ting my designation around the same
time is exciting, as I feel it shows
my dedication to my career and the
high level of care I look forward to
continuing to offer our patients at
Oaklawn,” said Klee.

Toyota is also promoting equity
in education through an additional
fundraiser during the month for cus-
tomers who would like to contribute
more, collecting donations at http://www.
kinf.org/toyota, according to a press
release provided by Lakeview School
District.
Nationwide, the program is equip-
ping 60,000 students with essential
school supplies, according to the
press release.
Lakeview Superintendent Dr.
William Patterson attended the back-
pack giveaway and Meet the Teacher
Night at
Pairieview.
“I just
certainly
appreciated
the partner-
ship and that
they would,
you know,
just take
time to do
something
like this for

Vinci since 2020 when she arrived at
Oaklawn in Marshall.
“I’ve used it for the majority of

our kids,” said Patterson. “I think it’s
real important to start out the school
year on a great note and and this ges-
ture of backpacks, notebooks, pencil
cases, pencils, I mean, is just out-
standing for the kids, and I certainly
appreciate it, and hope to continue
their partnership.”
Michelle Smitherman of Sunshine
Toyota helped distribute the supplies
to the students after meeting their
teachers.
“I think it’s wonderful that they
give all this stuff to the kids,” she
said. “Very, very sweet. Sunshine
Toyota does a lot for the community
so it’s nice that we get to come out
and do this.”
