Harper Creek senior forward Tre
Cotton scored the game’s lone goal
on a rebound effort with 50 seconds
remaining in the first half last Friday
evening as coach Kyle Grestini’s
Beavers earned the school’s first
(and only) All-City Boys’ Soccer
Tournament championship since
2008 by posting a 1-0 triumph over
host Lakeview.
The tourney has been held annually
since 1992; and Lakeview was the
five-time defending All-City champ
heading into this year’s tourney.
In goal for Harper Creek was
sophomore Broderick Hanger. The
goalkeeper for Lakeview, coached
for the first time this season by Ryan
Sisco (replacing the retired Trent

cial saves during the contest – with
all of the All-City games featuring
two 30-minute halves with running
clocks.
In the consolation game for third
place, coach Mike VanderBilt’s
Calhoun Christian Co-Op (a co-op
with St. Philip and Climax-Scotts)
defeated coach Jason Rahn’s
Pennfield Panthers 4-3 in a penalty
kick shootout after the squads were
tied at 1-all at the end of regulation.
In earlier All-City tourney games,
coach Mel Carillo’s Battle Creek
Central Bearcats blanked Pennfield
3-0; Harper Creek defeated the
Calhoun Christian Co-Op 5-0; and
Lakeview edged BCC 2-1. Both
HCHS and LHS advanced directly
into the title match after winning
their opening tilts.
