Kellogg Community College
(KCC) has joined the“Our City.
Your Home.” initiative.
In fact, KCC was one of the many
partners who helped shape the new
civic pride promotion that launched
last month after months long work
by more than 80 individuals.
“Kellogg Community College
is proud to be a key participant in
a new collaborative, community-
driven campaign...to instill pride in
the city of Battle Creek,” said KCC
Marketing Director Simon Thalmann
last month. “We’re customizing the
assets some to fit KCC. (Changing
the tagline to ‘Our Home. Your
College.’ and using college colors
and photos, etc.)”
The new “Our City. Your Home.”
initiative is the result of a months
long development process involving
stakeholders from across the city,
including representatives from busi-
ness and industry, education and the
arts, local government and more.
“Among the objectives of the
campaign are instilling civic pride
in Battle Creek; engaging current
residents to renew their commit-
ment to living and working in the
city; attracting new residents,” said
Thalmann, “families and businesses
to move to the community; and
encouraging more opportunities for
area families.”
Among the community partners
involved in the campaign is the W.K.
Kellogg Foundation.
“Developed with input from more
than 80 diverse local residents,
including leaders of many WKKF
grantees,” the WKKF reported, “the
campaign aims to elevate the city’s
identity and attract new residents and
businesses by highlighting Battle
Creek as a welcoming and vibrant
place to live and work. The tagline
is designed to be adaptable, allowing
various community groups to cus-
tomize it to fit their needs.”

the campaign to the school at https://

Community embraces new
‘Our City. Your Home.’ promotion
Mayor Mark Behnke said Battle
Creek has a rich history of support-
ing some large employers over the
years, such as the W.K. Kellogg Co.
and Denso Manufacturing, as well as
small businesses.
“I think everyone realizes that
Battle Creek’s a very historical city,”
said Behnke on Monday. “We have
a long history of supporting some
businesses that have done very well
through the years...and in turn, a
lot of those organizations have sup-
ported our welcoming community
and we really try to do our best to
really make it feel as though this
is your home, when you come to
Battle Creek, whether it be Burmese
families, be it Latino, minority or
anyone and that’s what it’s really
all about. We want Battle Creek to
be a community that is more caring
and giving and able to educate their
children here with some competitive
public schools, competitive private
schools.”
He added that KCC is “flourishing,
reaching out and doing more and
more with the people” of the com-
munity.
“Battle Creek is a great commu-
nity,” the Mayor added. “And, as a
region, with Calhoun County, we’re
able to do more. That’s why we’re
working hard with minority and
women-based businesses than ever
before and we’ve been very suc-
cessful with that and now we’re just
looking at what we can do to find
affordable housing and workforce
housing to make it ‘Our City. Your
Home. Battle Creek.’”

Commerce has provided download-
