year, which meant a larger turnout.”
Seaman added that there were 23
craft vendors on site, and local band
Barefoot Blonde performed for the
third straight year, and Seaman said
she hopes the band will be back next
year.
“We appreciate all of the support
and all of the people who came out
and we can’t wait to do it again in
2025,” she said.
Springfield City Manager Vester
Davis Jr. said it seemed like every-
one had an enjoyable time.
“It’s a great event and we were
lucky with the weather,” he said.
“It’s wonderful event for the commu-
nity and people get to enjoy one of
our parks here in Springfield.’
Trophies were awarded in several
categories, including Best In Show
and Mayor’s Choice.
“It gets pretty competitive,” said
Davis.
Added Seaman, “We don’t have
restrictions on what types of cars can
enter. If you have a car, bring it.”

Two long-time friends from Battle Creek who entered the show, Bob Johnson and Phil Livengood, have been going to car shows together for years. They became friends while working at Kellogg five decades ago. Johnson was there with his 1955 Chevy Bel Air, which won Best in Show, and Livengood was there with his 1971 Chevy El Camino.

“I get a lot of enjoyment out of driving the car,” said Johnson, who has had the Bel-Air for 15 years. “When I first got it, it wasn’t in great shape. I like cars because when I was a teenager I found out girls didn’t like riding on bicycles to go someplace with you. So, you had to have a car, and usually the cars I had weren’t in too good a shape, so I had to work on [them] to keep them run-

ning. That’s why I got into working on cars and I enjoy it.” Johnson said he enters 15-20 shows a year and has shown his cars at the Springfield show in the past. “You make friends with the other owners,” he said. “Phil and I go to shows together and it makes our day.” Johnson and Livengood will often take their cars to area retirement homes. “So many people will say to me that they had a car just like the one I have,” said Johnson. “It makes them so happy. I get so much enjoyment showing the car.” Livengood has had his El Camino since 2020. “I’ve hung chrome on it, and I’ve had mechanical work done on it,” he said. “Bob jokes that the El Camino
