Marian E. Burch, the namesake of the
adult day care center in Battle Creek
since 1992.

we’ve been marketing the ribbon cut-
ting and the rebranding over the past
two weeks, we’ve had several phone
calls inquiring about our services.”
Davis said former President Ronald
Reagan proclaimed National Adult
Day Care Services week in the
1980s.
“So, this week has been a big week
of celebration around here,” she said.
“This staff has really done a tremen-
dous job.”
Nationally, the theme this year was
“Super Heroes.”
“I feel that every one of our
employees is a super hero,” she said.
“I applaud every employee. You are
my super hero. You are the client’s
super hero so please continue to keep
up the good work.”
Adult Day Care Advisory Board
Chair Bev Kelley thanked everyone
for attending.
“I came on this board, I believe in
1996,” she said, noting that she had
to leave due to work commitments.
“I came back because I knew as a
retired person, I could do anything
I wanted but I wanted to make sure
it had meaning and so I wanted to
be part of this board again. I want
you to know that when decisions are
made, I have never heard anyone
say, ‘it would make my job easier.’
I have heard the staff say, ‘it would
help the clients.’ Every decision they
make is to do the best job they can
for this community and I am honored
to be chair of this board.”
Marian E. Burch was born Marian
E. Bowser on March 10, 1924 in
Kansas City, KS.
She was one of four children,
Melvin, Dorothy and Merle Bowser.
“As a child, my family moved

to Convis Township in Marshall,
Michigan,” said Bogan, who vol-
unteers montly at the center. “They
lived on a farm an in the 1930s,
they moved with her family to
Battle Creek, where she attending
Washington School and Battle Creek
Central High School.”
In 1940, Marian married Alfred
“Buddy” Burch and lived in Albion
where they bought their first house
on Chestnut Street, before moving to
Battle Creek to raise their four chil-
dren, including Bogan.
“While my Dad was away in World
War II,” said Bogan, “my Mother
went to work at the old Oliver com-
pany where she wired and riveted
reconnaissance planes.”
Bogan said Marian E. Burch went
back to school in the 1960s and
became an active member of the
Battle Creek Urban League where
she served on the police community
relations committee and education
