“I come
from an
organi-
zational
develop-
ment
back-
ground,
and so, I
want to
focus on
the staff
that we
have and
really
building
a culture
so that
we can
do our
most excellent work,” she said.
“I kind of work off of the ‘we
want to give you, our staff, excel-
lence, so that we can get excellence
in return’... Dale already laid the
groundwork for that. It’s a wonderful
culture here, and so building upon
that, and then looking at expanding
our services and the capacity within
the services and programs that we
already have.”
She suggested they may add some
contracted services that align with
their existing foster care and adop-
tion programs to create “a continuum
of care,” things like parenting classes
and reunification support services.
“We might be able to then build
a program that kind of keeps it
here at CityLinC, so that whoever
is involved - the foster family, the
foster child, the biological parents
- they’re all clients of ours, so that
they can have the same people and
agency involved... through crisis and
through reunification or adoption,
whatever ends up being the case.”
She also said she intends to look
into diversifying the organization’s
funding streams.
“I have some grant writing experi-
ence, and so we’ve already started to
look at what foundations and grants
are doing in the space of foster care,”
said DeBree.

CityLinC Executive
Director Dale Boyer has
retired after 16 years at
the helm.
“Our properties have received the
‘Beautiful Battle Creek Awards.’”
Another highlight of his tenure, “in
2017, CityLinC became debt-free
and we have operated since then as
a debt-free faith based non-profit,
through the generous support of our
donors and folks who believe in what
we do.” he said. “Being debt-free
allows us to concentrate our resourc-
es on actual ministry.”
Boyer said, “Three years ago,
I started a conversation with the
CityLinC Board regarding what a
leadership transition might look
like. This past summer, our plans
and dreams came true when we
welcomed Cheri DeBree as our new
Executive Director.”
Although he has stepped back from
serving as CityLinC’s leader, he is
still an integral part of the organiza-
tion, serving as the new director of
their Second Wind Handymen pro-
gram, which gives non-violent parol-
ees the opportunity to earn money
and build work experience and self
esteem in a supervised work setting.
“With Cheri at the helm, I will
be free to spend more time devel-
oping our Second Wind Mentor
and Handymen Ministry. The sign
above my desk says, ‘It’s all about
Relationships.’ Relational mentoring
is the joy of my life,” he said.
DeBree said, “they do excellent
handymen work,” and they are avail-
able to be hired for a variety of odd
jobs by contacting CityLinC.
She said one of her biggest initia-
tives, moving forward, “is to make
CityLinC a workplace of excel-
lence.”
