Salvation Army gears up
for Christmas campaign
Capts. Grace and Mika Roinila
promoted the Christmas campaign
recently with the Altrusa Service Club
at Barista Blues Café.
The Salvation Army provides ser-
vices to the community that many
may not be aware of.
We take this opportunity to share
some of the ministry that we have
delivered across Calhoun and Barry
counties since our arrival to the area
in 1887.
We are known for the help in social
services that is provided, including
utility assistance, rent assistance and
emergency assistance, which are
dependent on available funding.
When funding runs out, we unfor-
tunately cannot help.
The Pathway of Hope Program,
which aims to curtail inter-genera-
tional poverty among families, offers
in-depth case management to help
See CHRISTMAS on 29
overcome barriers that may prevent
people from reaching self-sufficien-
cy, including employment.
Our monthly job fair, on the third
Tuesday of the month, has received
much support.
Many employers, such as
FireKeepers, Walmart and Duncan
Aviation, are hiring candidates dur-
ing the event.
The Salvation Army also provides
a free lunch for all who come to
Sally’s Kitchen.
We serve a nutritious lunch from
11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday-
Friday, and 1-2 p.m. Saturday, serv-
ing some 120 people daily.
People can also get food for their
homes from Sally’s Market and our
Emergency Food Pantry, which are
open daily from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Children’s programming and
Sunday services also happen each
week.
If you have a need, The Salvation
Army is here to help your physical
and spiritual needs!
Our ministry in Battle Creek and
beyond is dependent on community
support.
This is why the upcoming
Christmas campaign is a major fund-
raiser that provides much support for
our work throughout the year.
This year, the campaign will run
from Nov. 8 through Dec. 24, and
volunteer registration is already
available online at https://www.regis-
tertoring.com.
