OCTOBER 10, 2024 – PAGE 2

Students in Keelin Markou’s
LHS science class designed and
implemented an experiment to
answer the question, “How does light
affect the pupils of your eyes?” The
classroom was abuzz as students,
armed with the flashlight functions of
their phones, applied their learning
to work through the scientific
method. Students were tasked with
crafting hypotheses, designing
and conducting experiments, and
ultimately, writing conclusions to
summarize their findings. This hands-
on approach not only enhanced
their understanding of scientific
inquiry but also demonstrated their
ability to independently apply these
principles.

Multilingual Parent Advisory Aims to Support Parent Engagement

Lakeview’s Multilingual Parent
Advisory held the first meeting
of the year with a focus on
ensuring multilingual families can
successfully navigate the Parent
Skyward system.
A key focus of the October
meeting was responding to
feedback gathered from a 2024
parent survey, through which
parents expressed a desire for
instruction on navigating the
district’s student information
system, Skyward. Skyward
is a critical tool used by the
district for tracking student
attendance, grades, and other
essential information, and it’s an
important tool in communicating
student progress with families.
During the meeting, parents
were invited to share their
experiences with the platform.
The discussion centered on what
aspects of Parent Skyward are
working well and where families

are encountering challenges.
These insights will help the
district tailor future training
sessions to better meet the
needs of its diverse community.
Lakeview School District
supports 409 K-12 students
who are learning the English
language, representing
approximately 10% of the
overall student population. The
district’s Multilingual Parent
Advisory team helps ensure
that all families can actively
participate in and have a voice
in improving their children’s
educational experience.
The next Multilingual Parent
Advisory meeting is scheduled
for February. For more

Advisory team, please contact
