The Child Abuse Prevention (CAP)
Endowment Fund for Calhoun
County, Inc. is making available
grants of $500-5,000 toward com-
munity efforts to support parents and
children.
The CAP Fund is interested in
programs that can connect parents to
services available in the community
or to programs that increase parent-
ing skills and confidence.
“Parenting, with all its joys, is
still challenging for every parent
at some point, no matter what eco-
nomic class you come from” said
Rita McPhail, president of the CAP
Fund. “Preparing for childbirth,
learning to breastfeed, help and
support with newborns, learning
about child development and what
is a child is capable of at different
ages are all things that are helpful
to parents, especially new parents.
Understanding your child’s unique
personality type and some basic
parenting techniques is important
for parents of older children. Many
parents do not have any family or
friends that they can depend on as
role models, to provide informa-
tion, or to just be there so they are
not alone. That is why community
programs providing support is so
important.”
McPhail said the CAP Fund is
interested in hearing from organiza-
tions that have ideas for supporting
parents, increasing parenting skills
and confidence, or more successfully
connecting families to early child-
hood services and programs.
Applications are due Oct. 31.
People may contact McPhail at
