Creek Public Schools (BCPS)
freshman may have in mind was
represented in their school gym
Wednesday when the district teamed
up with Goodwill Industries of
Central Michigan’s Heartland for a
job fair.
BCPS Career Coach Jonathan
Bartik, who facilitates the school’s
career academies, said the Freshman
Career Exploration Fair is held annu-
ally.
“It’s designed to expose students -
freshmen - to the variety of careers
available in the Battle Creek area,”
he said, “and help them choose their
career pathway that they’re going to
focus on the next three years at Battle
Creek Central.”
Bartik said the district also offers
a senior job fair in the spring that
is more like a hiring fair targeting
adults.
“The passport is a guided assign-
ment for the students here,” said
Bartik about the freshman. “They
have to get a stamp from each of the
eight different career pathways repre-
sented at the school so at the end of
their freshman year, students choose
one of eight career pathways, busi-
ness, finance, engineering and skilled
trades or information technology in
one academy or health care, nursing,
education and public safety in the
other academy so we have programs
representing all eight of those career
pathways here and the students have
to visit at least one booth tied to each
pathway.”
For instance, representing the
finance option were Marshall
Community Credit Union, Blue Ox
Credit Union, Kellogg Community
Credit Union, Advia Credit Union,
Consumers Credit Union, American 1
Credit Union and Fifth-Third Bank.
Representing healthcare at the event
were LifeCare Ambulance, Summit
Pointe, Sweet Magnolias Massage
and Wellness Center, the Substance
Abuse Council and others, while

Heartland CEO Ken Bauer said that
Goodwill partners with the district.“This is a great thing because they
get exposed to careers early in their
life in high school,” said Bauer about
