The 2024 Veterans Day program at
Fort Custer National Cemetery will
take place Monday, Nov. 11, at 11
a.m.
The cemetery is located at 15501
Dickman Road, in Augusta.
“This is a day we remember and
honor all military members that
served our nation and defended the
freedoms we all take for granted,”
said Col. Frank J. Walker (Ret.),
USAF/ANG, and chairperson of
the Fort Custer National Cemetery
Advisory Committee.
The cemetery is the resting place
for many veterans and their families
“to whom we honor and reflect our
gratitude for their service,” he said.
Walker will serve as master of cer-
emonies.
The program will include an invo-
cation/benediction by Pastor Jamey
Nichols of Living Hope Community
Church; opening remarks by Fort
Custer National Cemetery Director
Rodney Heard; patriotic music by
Jonathon Barnes and 4th grades
students from Comstock STEM
Academy; honors from the 110th
Color Guard; military honors by the
Col. Frank J. Walker (Ret.)

echo taps performed by veterans
Nicholas Batch and John Edwards;
a flyover by the Hooligans Flight
Team; a keynote address by the
commander of the 110th Wing, Col.
James M. Rossi; and a special pre-
sentation by Walker.
“While I believe every day should
be Veterans Day, this day allows us,
as a nation, to come together and
express our gratitude for the service
and sacrifices made by those who
have defended the freedoms we cher-
ish,” said Walker.
Symphony to salute veterans with Nov. 2 concert
The Battle Creek Symphony, will
present the “American Veteran”
concert on Saturday, Nov. 2,
at 7:30 p.m. at W.K. Kellogg
Auditorium in downtown Battle
Creek.

“Throughout history, music has
uniquely expressed patriotism, and
this concert honors the courage
and sacrifice of our nation’s ser-
vicemen and servicewomen,” said
Susan Balbaugh, executive director
of The Music Center, parent orga-
nization of the symphony.
Under conductor Anne Harrigan,
the symphony will perform patri-
otic favorites, such as the “Battle
Hymn of the Republic,” “Requiem
for a Soldier” from “Band of
Brothers” and the “Armed Forces
Salute.”
“In a moving collaboration, eight
regional choirs will join the orches-
tra, creating a powerful musical
tribute to veterans,” said Balbaugh.
“This
multimedia concert will also fea-
ture a photo slide show showcasing
images of local veterans, adding a
personal and emotional element to
the event.”
Harrigan said, “Working with our
local veterans was a real joy for us
and we heard many personal stories.
We look forward to seeing them
again at the concert and are proud to
be able to honor them in this way.”
