Kalamazoo Valley, she led the team
in both points and rebounds per
game, contributing to a Conference
Championship.
Bre’s performances earned her
spots on the All MCCAA Western
Conference first team, MCCAA All
Region, NJCAA All Region, and the
NJCAA All-American teams.
From 2013 to 2016, Bre contin-
ued to showcase her skills at the
University of the Incarnate Word
located in San Antonio, Texas on a
full-ride scholarship.
With a legacy of hard work, leader-
ship, and outstanding achievements,
Bre Birmingham stands out as a
remarkable figure in the history of
Harper Creek
women’s bas-
ketball.
David
VanGeison

Director
David
VanGeison

was involved at Harper Creek as a

teacher, coach and the sports infor-

mation director for football and

basketball. Dave started teaching

at Harper Creek in 1985 and retired

in 2014, putting in 29 years in the

classroom.

With his love for Harper Creek,

Dave started as the SID for the foot-

ball program in 1984. He completed

many tasks as the SID, as he kept

stats, created media guides, game

recaps, game day programs, depth

charts weekly press notes and devel-

oped a record book.

Dave was also the SID for the boys

and girls basketball programs starting

in 1998 and continued through the

2020-2021 season. He created game

programs, which included schedules,

a player watch section and updated

stats for the Beavers.

His dedication for Harper Creek

shines through as he currently still

produces these game programs

for both boys and girls basketball

remotely from Tecumseh.

During his time Dave also created

an athletic website providing up to

date information on all Harper Creek

athletic teams and had over 110,

visitors.

Dave coached several sports at

Harper Creek: baseball, softball,

boys basketball and boys and girls

golf. While coaching boys golf,

Dave’s team qualified for the state

tournament in 2013. He coached

boys golf for 28 years and girls golf

for 13 years at Harper Creek. He

continues to coach golf at Tecumseh

High School, making this fall his

49th season as a golf coach. Dave

has a true passion for making Harper

Creek great and has always put

Harper Creek first though his contin-

ued dedication.

Jeff Smith

Class of

1978

Jeff Smith

was a standout

track athlete

while attend-

ing Harper

Creek High

School. Jeff

earned four

varsity let-

ters and excelled in pole vault. He

was named to the All-City team four

times and All-League team three

times.

He was team captain for three

years, helped his team to league

championships in 1977 and 1978,

set the 3-man pole vault relay school

record of 38’ and still holds the

2-man pole vault relay record of 24’

¾”.

He set the current school record

in 1978 in individual pole vault at

14’6”. Most impressively, in 1978,

Jeff qualified for the state meet and

took won the state championship in

the pole vault.

Kelby Latta

graduated from

Harper Creek

in 2012 leav-

ing his mark

on the football

field. He was

a four-year

varsity football player who was very

successful and claimed several hon-

ors during his career. Kelby was a

part of the All-City and All-League

teams, he helped his teams to league,

district and regional championships,

and he was named to the All-State
