110 th Color Guard, Military Honors
by the Fort Custer National Cemetery
Honor Guard Friday squad and Taps
performed by Tim Culver.
There was also a flyover by the
renowned Hooligans Flight Team.
The ceremony’s keynote speak-
er was Col. James M. Rossi,
Commander of the 110th Wing, Battle
Creek Air National Guard Base.
“It is an honor to stand before you
today at the historic Fort Custer
National Cemetery, where we gather
to pay tribute to those who have
given so much in service to this
great country,” said Rossi. “I’m very
grateful for the opportunity to be
here with you on this special day,
Veterans Day. Today, on the 11th
hour of the 11th day of the 11th
month, we reflect on the sacrifices
of all those who have served in our
military.”
Rossi pointed out that the Battle
Creek area is home to more than
4,000 veterans.
“Battle Creek is deeply connected
to a legacy of service. Historically,
Battle Creek has long been home to a
rich tradition of military service and
support for the Air National Guard
Base that I command. Michigan
National Guard has served in con-
flicts spanning from World War II
through the Global War on Terrorism
and this dedication and duty is
woven into the fabric of our state.”
During his remarks, Heard thanked
veterans in attendance for their ser-
vice.
“Your service and sacrifice deliv-
ered all of our rights and freedoms
including the right for us to come
together on this special day,” said
Heard. “This commemoration is for
you and what you have done for our
nation... Today we take a moment to
remember and reflect on what veter-
ans have provided for our country.”
Walker spoke of the Avenue of
Flags when one enters the cemetery
grounds.

table spirit that unites us all,” said
