HINCHINBROOK ISLAND WALK
It’s a World Heritage site and for good reason: Hinchinbrook’s vast expanse of rainforest
and mangroves is a remote wilderness that constitutes the biggest island in the Great
Barrier Reef. And to protect its wilderness status, just 40 people are allowed a permit to
visit at any given time. They come to sea kayak the island’s coast alongside dugongs and
green turtles, but most come to attempt the world-famous Thorsborne Trail, a
32-kilometre path through the rainforest and mountains that takes four-days, pitching
up at campsites along the way. So get your permit, and experience the exhilaration of
being in near total isolation – a castaway in an untouched, tropical landscape.
