WISH YOU WERE HERE

BEN LOMOND NP TA S M A N I A

In the biblical Book of Genesis, Jacob’s Ladder
was a pathway to heaven appearing in a dream.
The Tasmanian version is a rather more earthly
affair, being one of the most spectacular roads
in Australia. Its layered, ultra-curved hairpins
absolutely make it the stuff of dreams for
roadsters and motorbikes, but being above the
snowline in the island state’s main snowsports

area, the drive becomes rather more epic in
winter. The once-oceanic dolerite rock columns
that overlook the steep climb to the plateau
make for fantastic advanced climbing, while
summer brings an entirely different look from
the rest of the state, and the wildflower displays
of your dreams, too. We can see why the nearest
town is named Blessington.
